2.Two Cases of Congenital Ectodermal Defect.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1968;6(1):45-49
Tow cases of congenital ectodermal defect in brothers aged 15 and 10 years were pesinted and the literature was reviewed. They had lack of sweating, sparseness of the hard hairs, absence of lanugo hairs, maldevelopment or defect of most of the teeth, etc. They seemed to be angidrotic type associated with a sex-linked reccessive inheritance in their family backgroud.

Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 1997;23(3):465-473
Recent development of maxillofacial surgery has taken an interest in the regeneration of facial bone defects. For the reconstruction of facial bone defects, autogenous bone grafts have been widely used. However, there are some clinical problems : the morbidity of donor sites, resorption of autogenous bone graft and, the availability of the proper form and size. The purpose of this study is to find the effective solutions to above problems. The present study was designed to evaluate the roles and regenerating capacity of fibrin sealant. Fibrin sealant is a newly developed substance for hemostasis, tissue sealing and wound healing. I made the experimental study on the effects and roles of bibrin sealant in sutogenous bone graft procedure to minimize the above complications and problems. Twenty-five adult white rabbits were used as the experimental material. Three trephine defects were made by drilling on the parietal bone of each rabbit. Defect size was 8x8mm. First group consisted of the rabbits which had the artificial defect on the parietal bone as control. The defect in second group was sealed up with autogenous boon chip only. Last group comprised the rabbits autografted by mixing the bone chip with the fibrin sealant. The results were carefully examined grossly and microscopically from the 3rd day to the 28th day postoperatively. The following results were obtained ; 1. The mixture of fibrin sealant and bone chip was useful for regenerating the bone defects. Most of the defects were substituted by new bone. 2. In the case of the graft with bone chip only, most defects were also filled with new bone, but less than fibrin group. 3. In the control group, new bone was formed around the peripheral area only. A mixture of fibrin sealant and autogenous bone chip plays an effective role in forming new bone. find judging from the results of this experiment, it may be expected the much use of the fibrin sealant in maxillofacial orthopedic surgery.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 1998;41(7):851-855
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Dimenhydrinate is known to act on the vestibular system, causing vestiular suppression. But the effects related with therapeutic dosage on eye tracking tests and vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) are not clear yet. We performed this study to evaluate the effects of dimenhyrinate on eye tracking tests and VOR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty five healthy subjects, comprising of 12 men and 13 women between the ages of 15 and 69 (mean age=39) participated in this study. The assessment included saccade test, smooth pursuit test, optokinetic nystagmus test for eye tracking test and sinusoidal harmonic acceleration test for VOR test. Each test was performed before, and 2 hours and 4 hours after the oral intake of dimenhydrinate (therapeutic dosage: 50 mg). The subjects were kept alert by performing a calculation task and communicating with the investigator during tests. RESULTS: Analysis of results showed that latency was prolonged after 2 hours but was returned to initiae value after 4 hours. Gain was not changed in the saccade test as well as in the smooth pursuit test. Mean slow phase eye velocity (SPEV) decreased after 4 hours in optokinetic nystagmus test. Gain and phase lead decreased only at 0.01 Hz in sinusoidal harmonic acceleration test. CONCLUSION: Dimenhydrinate had minimal effects on eye tracking tests and VOR when the patient's alertness was kept during test.

Temporomandibular (TM) joint pain results from many etiologic factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of Bone SPECT in patients with TM joint pain. The subjects were 34 patients with TM joint pain. All patients underwent plain radiography, planar bone scan, and Bone SPECT. The intensity of radioisotope uptake at TM joint was graded into three; no increased uptake above three background activity as grade 0, uptake similar to occipital bone as grade I, and uptake similar to maxillary sinus as grade II. Clinical findings and therapeutic methods were reviewed. Twenty-seven patients (80%) out of 34 patients with TM joint pain had increased uptake in bone SPECT. Twenty-one (78%) out of 27 patients had increased uptake in the mandibular condyle and remaining six patients (22%) had uptake in the mandibular and maxillary arch, which proved to be dental problem. Seven patients out of 34 were grade as 0, four (12%) were grade I, 23 (68%) were grade II. Four patients with grade I had clicking sound and symptoms which were subsided with medication in all cases. Among 23 patients with grade II, 7 patients had clicking sound and 14 patients underwent medication and decompression therapy. With Planar bone scan, 11 cases (32%) had increased uptake in TM joint area. Plain radiography revealed narrowing, distension, erosion and limitation of TM joint in 16 cases (47%). Bone SPECT can be valuable for screening and managing the patients with TM joint pain. Patients with grade II needed intensive treatment such as joint aspiration. However degree of the radioisotope uptake did not well correlated with clinical symptoms.
